Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, in America's eyes, into the class of child prodigies. These traits were natural for an Irish-born child surrounded by talented parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen was born in this cosy sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by the family of her parents. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake in "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons is the 2nd child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out the wonderful family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and was a gruelling athlete in sports when she was a young. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude for performing. This was apparent when she won each Feis in drama and theatre that Ireland had to offer. At the age of 14, she was accepted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre as well as operatic vocals.
